INTERVIEW WITH ANDRÁS GIMESI

INTERVIEW

1. Who is András Gimesi?

I was born in Budapest Hungary Europe, and also I'm living here, I'm a Hungarian man.
Some years ago I was a constructor engineer, then an IT engineer (system administrator, I planned and managed the country-wide network of a Hungarian state organization).  These works were also a passion for me, I loved to do them.  Also I composed some (not too good ;))
music, you can listen to them at URL
http://AudioVisions.hu and you can read there in English also.
Photography always interested me, but never dealt with it seriously, just made "tourist" photos, mainly during my travels.  Well, for example I did a web travel diary with photos about our travel in Egypt in 2002., you can find it on the URL
http://kmt2002naplo.galltakri.org/ but only in Hungarian.
Something changed in me in november-december 2009., and I took my photo camera more seriously in my hands, and started to think about photography as a (starter) photographer.  In few weeks it became clear that the street and the city (buildings) is my main photo theme, so
street and city photography is my main interest.  But it doesn't mean that I do only street/city/building photos, I'm also interested in conceptual photography with model(s) etc..
In september 2010. I had an exhibition in Szentendre (a town near Budapest) there was about 40 street and city photos on view as archive prints on the walls, and a CD book was released with my 100 photos.

2. Define yourself in three words (independent)

open-minded
black (favorite color :)
flexible

3. What means photography to you?

Photography is a passion.  A hobby also and work, but even when I do a work it's also a passion for me.

4. What do you think when you do a photo shoot?

It depends what I photographing at the moment.  On the street I'm seeking for interesting moments, some times funny moments as well.

5. How do you choose the person or object you are photographing?

If on the street, that I'm walking as an observer, and when I see that there's something interesting or and interesting situation is coming, I'm shooting.  Street photography taught me to be very quick in making decisions and compositions.  Now, when I taking photos in a party or
in a studio, I find this quickness very useful.

6. Do you think your work brings something to humanity?

Maybe yes.  As the street, sociography or reportage photography can bring some kind of enlightenment to people about the world they living in.  People maybe will understand more the world and each other...
For example when there was that toxic red mud sludge disaster in OCT.2010, I was there to take (reportage) photos, and after it I met people who understood that whole disaster and the feelings of it's victims much more after viewing my photos.

7. What is your picture you most satisfied?

I don't have only one photo for this, I never thought about this untill now, it's a really hard to choose.  It's something like if someone have few children, there's no question which he/she loves
more, but he/she loves them equally.
Satisfaction... it's for the moment only.  I always satisfied the best with my latest photo at the moment when it's ready.  But then comes a newer again and again and again...

8. Do you think you have created a different style?

Some way maybe yes, but to tell the truth now I'm still a beginner, at the beginning of my way, but others say that something "Gime-style" is already appearing on my photos.
Zoltan Hajtmanszki (a famous Hungarian photographer, who organised my exhibition) showed me that unknowingly-unconsciously I'm following a very special style that is famous in the world, known as Hungarian style.

9. What are your highest aspirations in life?

To be a good photographer. To evolve and to develop myself, to learn to be more and more good.  To do the best what I can.

10. Please address a few words to an international audience who visit our blog.

If someone want start photography but don't know what to do, the answer is very simple: take the camera and do it and do it and do it!
It was an answer what I've heard from one of my acquaintances when I
asked the same.

Thank you very much!
Gime
